How to Cancel Xbox Game Pass

The only way to cancel Xbox Game Pass is to use the Microsoft website. You can do this on a computer, phone, or even the web browser on your Xbox One.

Here’s how to cancel Xbox Game Pass:

Navigate to account. microsoft. com. Click Services & subscriptions. If prompted, enter your username and password, and click Sign in. Locate Xbox Game Pass in the list of your services and subscriptions, and click Manage. Click Cancel. Select Change > Turn off recurring billing to prevent your subscription from automatically renewing each month. Select an option, and click Next. These options let you keep playing until your subscription expires, or cancel and receive a partial refund. If you choose to receive the partial refund, you’ll immediately lose access to all of your Xbox Game Pass games. Click Confirm cancellation. Your Xbox Game Pass subscription will be canceled.

How to Turn Off Xbox Game Pass Auto-Renewal

The other way to cancel Xbox Game Pass is to turn off auto-renewal. This option is similar to the cancellation option that leaves Xbox Game Pass active until the end of your current subscription period. When you use this option, you’ll be able to continue playing your Game Pass games until your subscription expires.

Go this route if you think you might be done with Game Pass before the end of your current subscription period; it prevents the subscription from renewing automatically. If you get to the end of your subscription period and you’re still playing games from the service, all you have to do is resubscribe.

Here’s how to turn off auto-renewal for Xbox Game Pass:

Navigate to account. microsoft. com. Click Services & subscriptions. Locate Xbox Game Pass in the list, and click Manage. Click Change. Click Turn off recurring billing. If you’re currently on a yearly plan, and you would prefer to be on a monthly plan, select Switch plan instead. Click Confirm cancellation. If you want to continue playing your Xbox Game Pass games, you will need to manually resubscribe after your subscription runs out. This is useful if you think you might take a break from your Game Pass games and want to save some money. When your subscription period runs out, Microsoft won’t charge you again, and you’ll lose access to your Xbox Game Pass games.

What Happens When You Cancel Xbox Game Pass?

Microsoft offers two ways to end an Xbox Game Pass subscription, and they each have different consequences.

Canceling Xbox Game Pass: If you cancel your subscription, you have the option to receive a partial refund or end your subscription when it runs out. Turning off auto-renewal: If you end recurring billing on your subscription, Microsoft will automatically cancel it when your subscription runs out.

Cancelling Xbox Game Pass doesn’t impact any achievements you earned during your enrollment period, and you won’t lose any progress you made while playing the titles.

If you decide to subscribe again at a later time, you’ll be able to continue where you left off as long as your save data is available on your console or in the cloud. You can also allow continue playing where you left off if you purchase a digital or physical copy of a game you started while subscribed to Xbox Game Pass.

But, as good as the subscription service is, you may find that Xbox Game Pass isn’t for you. If that’s the case, you’ll want to cancel the subscription; the problem is that you can no longer cancel the subscription directly from your Xbox One. Don’t worry, it’s still fairly easy to cancel your Xbox Game Pass, and here’s where we show you how.

How to unsubscribe from Xbox Game Pass

Before we go into detail about how to unsubscribe from Xbox Game Pass, let’s first explain how this all works. Once you unsubscribe, you’ll be able to access the Xbox Game Pass library until your current paid period ends. At that point, you’ll no longer be able to browse or play any of the games in the 100+ game library, unless you’ve bought them separately at any point.

Oh, and while there was previously a way to cancel the subscription via the Xbox One, the method is no longer available. You’ll have to follow our instructions using a PC, Mac or smartphone to cancel Xbox Game Pass.

Head to microsoft. com/services on your PC, Mac or smartphone. Sign in to the Microsoft account associated with your Xbox ID. Under the ‘Xbox Game Pass’ subsection, click Manage. Click ‘Turn off auto-renew’. Click ‘Confirm cancellation’ to confirm your decision.

If you ever change your mind and want to re-subscribe to the Xbox Game Pass, simply search for “Xbox Game Pass” on the Microsoft Store on your Xbox One and follow the on-screen instructions. The good news is that Microsoft utilises the cloud to backup and store your game save data, meaning you’ll be able to carry on where you left off before you unsubscribed.
