Now that August has begun, several bugs and fish are no longer available to capture in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. In their stead comes new critters like the Migratory Locust. This bug will be available for a few months, but proactive collectors may want to snag one as soon as possible.

The main purpose for capturing a migratory locust is to fill out the museum, as the bug doesn’t sell for too much. Given their relative rarity and selling value of 600 Bells, there are much better sources of money for Animal Crossing players.
The first thing to note when trying to catch a Migratory Locust is when the bug appears. Migratory Locusts are only available to catch between the months of August and November, meaning that as of yesterday, fans have a good four months to work on getting one. Regarding time of day, these critters are capable of spawning between the hours of 8 AM and 7 PM, so they’re available for most of the day. While this may seem like a pretty generous window, Migratory Locusts are easily the rarest and most difficult to find of the four grasshopper and locust bugs available in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
It seems as though the Migratory Locust spawn rate is pretty low, as some players have reported scouring the island for hours before coming across one. In order to help with this, make sure that the game’s clock is set to a time between 8 AM and 7 PM, and focus the search around bodies of water. Though not confirmed, it seems as though these locusts prefer areas like that, as if the player gets too close they will jump in and vanish. With that in mind, after finding one, it is important to walk slowly and aim carefully or it may get away.
The Migratory Locust is just one of many new critters available in August for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and catching it should help players further their goals of completing their museum collections. Interestingly, Blathers isn’t too fond of these bugs, citing their roles in famines and plagues throughout history as the reason why.
