In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, like in real life, bug and fish availability is based on seasonality. Certain bugs will only show up during certain months, for example, and even then only at certain times. Because of this, finding all the bugs can be tricky, but players working together can get it done a lot faster.

How to Catch Rainbow Stag

The Rainbow Stag is one such new bug that players can find in the game, and tracking it down is well worth the time. Not only for the purpose of catching every bug in the game, but also because these critters sell for quite a bit as well.

Rainbow Stag Times, Location, and Price

Rainbow Stags only appear during the months of June, July, August, and September, making today the first day they can be found without the use of time travel in Animal Crossing. Long time fans may recognize these bugs from New Leaf, in which they also only appeared between June and September. They can be recognized by the slight, rainbow sheen of their carapaces, although it isn’t very easy to see in the dark. With that in mind, the dark is exactly when players will have to search for the Rainbow Stag, as they only appear between the hours of 7 PM and 8 AM the next day.

In order to find Rainbow Stags, players will either need to stay up late or get up pretty early, as the 7 PM to 8 AM timeframe isn’t the most convenient one. Fortunately, these guys will be around until the end of September, so there is no rush to catch them. They do sell for an impressive 6000 bells, however, making them one of the most lucrative bugs in New Horizons. Generally speaking, they spawn on trees, and they must be approached slowly and quietly or they will fly away.

Hopefully this helps players find this new bug and continue filling out their museums and logs, and maybe make a quick buck while doing so. There are bound to be other bugs making their first appearance in June, so players should keep an eye out and have bug nets at the ready.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
