The Atlas Moth in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available in the Northern Hemisphere from April through September and in the Southern Hemisphere from October through March. These lengthy windows mean that there is plenty of time to catch ACNH’s Atlas Moth, but there is one important caveat: this bug only spawns between the hours of 7pm and 4am. As such, players that are hoping to catch an Atlas Moth will need to prepare for some nighttime hunting.

Additionally, the Atlas Moth in New Horizons appears in a somewhat unique location, only spawning on the sides of trees. While some reports suggest that the moth can only be found on the trunks of pine trees and palm trees, other players indicate that the type of tree does not matter, and indeed the video below supports that claim.
With all of this in mind, Animal Crossing: New Horizons fans should simply keep their eyes on the trees that they pass during the appropriate time frame, looking for large moths that are attached to trunks. Once a player has spotted ACNH’s Atlas Moth, they should then proceed to creep up on it from below and then spring their net when they are just in range of the bug to avoid scaring it off.
As previously mentioned, the Atlas Moth in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is somewhat rare, and thus it may take some fans a while to encounter one. However, the Atlas Moth will be around for a while, and after a player has donated the bug to Blathers and his museum they can look forward to receiving 3,000 Bells for each one that they sell to Timmy and Tommy at Nook’s Cranny.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now for Nintendo Switch.
