The first step to catching Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Banded Dragonfly is to make sure it is in season. Specifically, players in the Northern Hemisphere will only find a Banded Dragonfly from the beginning of May through the end of October, and it will only appear in the Southern Hemisphere from the beginning of November through the end of April. Indeed, players should not concern themselves with finding a Banded Dragonfly in ACNH outside of these months, as it is simply not possible.

It is not only the time of year that matters when trying to catch a Banded Dragonfly in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, though, as time of day also matters. That is because this species only appears between the hours of 8am and 5pm, and fans will need to carve out some playtime during this window if they hope to get a Banded Dragonfly for Blathers.
Once a player is certain that they are hunting during the correct months and times, they should simply keep an eye out for a dragonfly with black and yellow stripes to pass them by. This is ACNH’s Banded Dragonfly, and it randomly appears flying around in the air. When located, a player will then need to use their sprint ability to pursue, as these insects are quite fast, and they should then tag the dragonfly with their net in ACNH when they get the chance.
To note, Banded Dragonfly in Animal Crossing: New Horizons are somewhat rare, and it may take players a little while to encounter one. This means that fans may need to exercise a bit of patience, but they will assuredly catch this insect if they put the time into it. Once that is done, they can then donate the Banded Dragonfly for exhibition or sell it at Nook’s Cranny for 4,500 Bells.
